Day 2: Boumalne Dad\u00e8s \u2013 Gorges of the Todra \u2013 Erfoud \u2013 Merzouga (Sahara Desert)<\/h3>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
In the morning, follow the road that winds through the Dades Valley, famous for its rock formations and lush oases. You\u2019ll soon reach the imposing Todra Gorges, with their cliffs rising up to 300 metres high: a breathtaking natural spectacle and a destination much loved by climbers and walkers. <\/span><\/p>\n After lunch, the tour continues through palm groves and desert villages such as Tinjdad and Erfoud, famous for its fossil workshops. In the afternoon, you\u2019ll arrive in Merzouga, where camels will be waiting to take you on a tour of the Erg Chebbi dunes. At sunset, you\u2019ll enjoy unforgettable scenery before arriving at your desert camp. <\/span><\/p>\n Dinner is served around the campfire, accompanied by music and Berber stories beneath a vast starry sky. The night is spent in comfortable tents amongst the dunes. <\/span><\/p>\n Get up early to watch the sunrise over the dunes of the Sahara \u2013 a truly magical experience. After breakfast, return to Merzouga on camelback or by 4×4 and set off on your journey northwards. <\/span><\/p>\n The route winds through the Ziz Valley, lined with thousands of palm trees along the river, before reaching Midelt, a village perched on the hillside and famous for its apple orchards. After lunch, the journey continues through the Middle Atlas, with a stop at the cedar forests of Azrou, a haven for Barbary macaques. <\/span><\/p>\n Later, visit Ifrane, known as \u2018Little Switzerland\u2019 for its Alpine architecture and neatly laid-out streets. Accompanied by a local guide, explore the medina (Fez el-Bali), designated World Heritage Site by UNESCO. Amongst the must-see attractions are: the madrasa of Bou Inania, the colourful tanneries and the lively souks, where the artisans keep alive the traditions. <\/span><\/p>\n You\u2019ll also visit the gates of the Royal Palace, the Jewish quarter (Mellah) and several panoramic viewpoints around the city. Fez is a veritable open-air museum of Moroccan history, architecture and culture. Overnight stay in a riad. <\/span><\/p>\n After breakfast, the journey continues northwards, heading towards the mountains of the Rif. The road winds through rolling hills, fertile valleys and traditional villages before reaching the charming town of Chefchaouen, known as the \u2018Blue Pearl\u2019. <\/span><\/p>\n This small town is famous for its blue houses, winding alleyways and peaceful atmosphere. Enjoy a free afternoon strolling through the medina, visiting the craft shops and exploring the main square. Overnight stay in a charming riad in Chefchaouen. <\/span><\/p>\n Today\u2019s excursion takes you to Tetouan, known as the \u2018White Dove\u2019, with its Spanish-influenced architecture and cultural mix. After a brief visit, the excursion continues to Tangier, a cosmopolitan port city where the Mediterranean and the Atlantic meet. <\/span><\/p>\n For centuries, Tangier has been a melting pot of cultures, attracting artists, writers and traders. On arrival, you can explore the historic medina, stroll along the seafront promenade or relax on the terrace of a caf\u00e9 by the sea. Overnight in Tangier. <\/span><\/p>\n After breakfast, drive along the Atlantic coast to Asilah, a picturesque coastal town famous for its whitewashed houses, colourful murals and peaceful atmosphere. Take your time to explore the medina, sample some fresh seafood and stroll along the ramparts overlooking the ocean before continuing your journey south. <\/span><\/p>\n The journey continues to Rabat, the capital of Morocco. There, you\u2019ll visit iconic sites such as the Kasbah of the Oudayas, the Hassan Tower (unfinished) and the mausoleum of Mohammed V. <\/span><\/p>\n A night in Rabat.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n Take the coastal road to Casablanca, Morocco\u2019s largest and most modern city. The highlight of the trip is a visit to the Hassan II Mosque, one of the largest in the world, built partly over the sea and of great architectural beauty. <\/span><\/p>\n Depending on your timetable, you can also explore the Corniche or the centre of the city before the end of the tour.
