Day 1: Arrival in Fes
Upon arrival at Fes-Saïss Airport, a driver will meet you and take you to your riad in the heart of the medina. Depending on your arrival time, you can take a short guided walk through its labyrinthine streets to get a first taste of Morocco’s spiritual and cultural capital, admiring colorful souks, ornate mosques, and a vibrant artisan atmosphere. Accommodation in a traditional riad.
Day 2: Excursion to Chefchaouen
After breakfast, you will depart for the Rif Mountains to visit Chefchaouen, Morocco’s famous “Blue Pearl.” Its blue-painted walls and tranquil atmosphere offer endless photo opportunities and places to relax. Stroll through its narrow streets, enjoy the main square of Outa el Hammam, or climb up to the Spanish Mosque for panoramic views. Return to Fes in the afternoon for dinner and overnight stay.
Day 3: Fes – Ifrane – Azrou – Midelt – Ziz Valley – Merzouga
Leave Fes behind and travel south through the Middle Atlas Mountains. First stop in Ifrane, known for its cleanliness and alpine style, often compared to Switzerland. Continue to Azrou, where the cedar forests are home to Barbary macaques. Lunch in Midelt before crossing volcanic plateaus and rocky passes to the fertile Ziz Valley, full of palm groves. In the afternoon, arrive in Merzouga, gateway to the Sahara. Switch to camels to explore the dunes of Erg Chebbi as the sun sets on the horizon. Overnight in a luxury desert camp with dinner, Berber music, and starry skies.
Day 4: Exploration of the Merzouga Desert
Wake up before dawn to watch the dunes turn golden. After breakfast, explore the desert in a 4×4: visit Lake Dayet Srij (home to flamingos in season), the Gnawa village of Khamlia, and nomadic families living among the dunes. Fossil sites and abandoned mines tell the geological history of the country. In the afternoon, relax at the riad or enjoy another camel ride deeper into the dunes. Night in the desert, in a camp or riad, depending on your preference.
Day 5: Merzouga – Rissani – Erfoud – Todra Gorges – Dades Valley
After breakfast, travel to Rissani, a former trading center on the caravan routes. Its bustling souk offers an authentic glimpse into local life. Continue to Erfoud, famous for its fossil workshops and marble crafts, then drive through palm groves to the impressive Todra Gorges. Enjoy a walk through the valley before arriving at the Dades Valley, with spectacular rock formations and centuries-old kasbahs. Dinner and overnight stay in a hotel surrounded by nature.
Day 6: Dades Valley – Valley of Roses – Skoura – Ouarzazate – Ait Ben Haddou – Marrakech
Breakfast and tour of the Dades Valley, known for its rock formations called “monkey fingers.” Continue to the aromatic Valley of Roses, famous for its rose water production and local festivals. As you pass through Skoura, admire palm groves and ancient kasbahs. Arrive in Ouarzazate, famous for its film studios and the Taourirt Kasbah. Then, explore the iconic Ait Ben Haddou, a fortified adobe village and World Heritage Site. In the afternoon, cross the High Atlas via the winding Tizi n’Tichka pass, stopping for photos, before arriving in Marrakech in the evening. Accommodation in a riad or hotel.
Day 7: Excursion to Essaouira
Travel to the Atlantic coast to visit Essaouira, a relaxed city with Portuguese fortifications, white walls, and wide beaches. Stroll through the medina, shop for local art, and enjoy a seafood lunch by the harbor. Along the way, watch goats climbing argan trees and visit a women’s cooperative that produces argan oil. Return to Marrakech in the late afternoon.
